Game Scores - Add some zeros.
I’ve been developing the scoring framework for my game the last couple of days. One thing I noticed shifting from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare to the next release was the increase in points gained for the same action. MW1 awarded 5 points for the same action while MW2 stuck a zero on the end upping it to 50. The second instalment also added a butt load of additional depending on the type...

Funstrating
Being both fun and frustrating.
This is what I want to achieve with my game and here’s why. Nine to five I’m a programmer, building crazy complex website for big-time clients. My day goes a lot like playing a difficult level in Angry Birds.
Fuck!. Shit!. Baws! Crap! Baaaasstaaard!
but then finally
Yaaaaaaaaaaaassssssss!!!!!!!
90% of my day may have been spent rubbing the side...

Uploading Corona SDK Builds To TestFlight

Coin Graphics I Whipped Up Free Download
I created a few coloured coins tonight while on a break from coding. Feel free to download them and use them in your games if you like. There’s red, blue, green and yellow pngs in the zip at 300x300px and 64x64px along with the original vector .ai.

January Progress Update
A couple of weeks have passed with the odd night here or there spent on the game. Time for a quick update on my in development iPhone game. Ready.
I’m coding the game for the Corona SDK. I’ve had to learn lua but it’s not been as painful as I imagined. What’s nice about using this platform is it will allow me to release the game on Android relatively easily if and when the...

iPhone Platform Game Controls.
I’m spoilt for choice as to how the player should move the character. I’m going to need left, right, jump and action. Originally I thought I’d require up and down to support swimming but I’m taking a Jetpack Joyride approach in that you tap jump to swim up and let the character sink gradually.
There are plenty of options to move the wee dude but which one do I go for?

Character Design : Early Draft
A core feature of my puzzle platformer will be fast character switching. Each character will behave slightly differently and it’s the players job to switch at the right time. This was mostly an exercise to get my head around Illustrator and take a break from coding. Once I’ve finalised and prototyped exactly what their behaviours are, I’ll revisit them to reflect these.

Awesome Free iOS Design Resources
I’m currently in the process of designing and building my first two iPhone apps. One is an enterprise app for work that I’m building with MonoTouch. The other, a game built in Corona, which I will be blogging about a lot more in the coming months.
I thought I’d put together a brief list of some resources some awesome people have made available for free which have helped me in my...

Week 1 : Research - Elements of Successful iPhone...
This weekend I started work on my first full blown game for the iPhone. I’m not ready to share the details of what the game will be specifically as I’m sure these will change dramatically over the coming weeks. All I’m sure on is it will be a platform game built with Corona SDK.
To get me started I’ve been downloading a bunch of games from the app store, jotting down some...
